Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) will continue to spread across the globe as more developing countries begin to adopt the procedure, Alain Cribier (Rouen, France)—who performed the world’s first TAVI procedure 20 years ago—tells Cardiovascular News.

In this interview, Cribier discusses the evolution of the TAVI procedure, and its move from being a procedure performed solely in patients considered as being at high surgical risk into a lower risk patient population.

Speaking close to the anniversary of the first TAVI procedure, performed at the University Hospital of Rouen, France, comments on the continued development of the procedure in the coming years.
