The Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) has announced the appointment of Josep Rodés-Cabau (Quebec Heart and Lung Institute, Laval University, Quebec City, Canada) as the editor-in-chief of its official journal, Structural Heart: The Journal of the Heart Team.

He will succeed Anthony N DeMaria (University of California San Diego, San Diego, USA) who is retiring after having led the journal since its inception in 2017.

“We are deeply grateful to Dr Tony DeMaria for his exceptional leadership during the formative years of Structural Heart,” said Martin B Leon (Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, USA) founder and chairman emeritus of CRF. “His vision and dedication have been instrumental in establishing the journal as a trusted resource in structural heart disease. Thanks to his stewardship, Structural Heart is now well-positioned for continued growth and impact in the field.”

“I am incredibly proud of what we have built with Structural Heart,” said DeMaria. “The journal has grown into a leading platform for research and collaboration in structural heart disease, and I am confident it will continue to thrive under Dr Rodés-Cabau’s leadership.”

Rodés-Cabau will assume editorial leadership on 1 July. A Professor of Medicine at Laval University (Québec City, Canada), he is a world-renowned expert in structural heart disease who for the last two decades has led multiple research, innovation, and academic programs at the Quebec Heart & Lung Institute in Canada, and at the Clínic Barcelona in Spain, CRF says in a press release. He previously served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC).

“We are very excited to welcome Dr Josep Rodés-Cabau as the new editor-in-chief of Structural Heart,” said Juan F Granada, president and chief executive officer of CRF.  “His exceptional expertise in transcatheter structural heart interventions will further elevate the journal’s role in advancing the field and improving patient outcomes worldwide.

“I am honored to take on this role and continue building on the strong foundation established by Dr DeMaria,” said Rodés-Cabau. “As the field of structural heart disease continues to evolve rapidly, Structural Heart plays a crucial role in disseminating groundbreaking research and fostering innovation. I look forward to working with our authors, reviewers, and editorial team to drive the journal’s growth and shape the future of structural heart interventions.”

Additionally, Jeffrey Popma, has been appointed deputy editor of Structural Heart. Popma currently serves as the chief scientific and strategic officer at CRF.

“I am thrilled to join the esteemed editorial team of Structural Heart,” said Popma. “This journal serves as a vital platform for advancing research and innovation in structural heart disease. I look forward to collaborating with the field’s leading experts in their quest to publish high-impact studies that shape clinical practice. Our team also looks forward to providing a developmental forum for our early career leaders, focusing on inclusion and innovation in addressing unmet patient needs.”
