The Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen has bestowed the red dot design award on the world’s smallest cardiopulmonary support system Cardiohelp. Before that, the Maquet innovation had already received the iF product design award.

The red dot award is globally recognised as a hallmark of design excellence. Cardiohelp was one of the winning entries in the product category Life Science and Medicine. A whole range of criteria is used to assess the products: innovation, functionality, quality of form, ergonomics, symbolic and emotional content, product periphery, degree of self-explanation, and environmental compatibility.

This year 3,231 products from a total of 49 nations were entered for a red dot product design 2009 award. The international panels of experts bestowed a red dot on 683 products, with the best 49 receiving the additional tag: best of the best.
