Elderly HF patients do not benefit from intensive medical therapy

Presented at the recent ESC meeting 2008, the Trial of Intensified vs. Standard Medical Therapy in Elderly Patients with Congestive Heart Failure (TIME-CHF) showed that the use of natriuretic-peptide levels rather than symptoms alone to guide the medical management of heart failure failed to influence the primary endpoint of hospitalisation-free survival over 18 months.
