ACC makes senior staff appointments


The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has announced several promotions and structural changes within its senior staff. The College said that the staff changes will “further consolidate and strengthen the organisation’s efforts in achieving its strategic goals, mission and vision”.

Among the appointments, John Rumsfeld has been named chief science and quality officer, a job he will carry out alongside his current role as chief innovation officer. In a press release, ACC said that Rumsfeld will be the physician architect and leader of its science and quality focused efforts.

Rumsfeld is a past member of the ACC Board of Trustees and former chief science officer for the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR). He also holds clinical and academic positions as a cardiologist at the Denver VA Medical Center and professor of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Brendan Mullen has been promoted to senior executive vice president where he will oversee several divisions within the College. Previously Mullen had held the positions of executive vice president and senior director for the PINNACLE Registry.

Prior to the ACC, Mullen worked for nearly 10 years as a consultant for the Advisory Board Company, a healthcare research and consulting firm focused on hospital and health system strategy and operations, as well as serving as vice president of Programs and Strategy at the National Quality Forum.

Among the other promotions, Janice Sibley has been named executive vice president, where she will oversee the Education and Publishing divisions of the College.

Sibley was previously division vice president of education where she oversaw a global array of ACC educational programs, products and learning support systems. In her new role, the organisation said, she will continue to manage all ACC educational offerings in addition to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) family of journals. She has been with the ACC for eight years and has worked in scientific and continuing medical education for more than 30 years.

The final change sees Julia Chang, previously the division vice president for science and quality, promoted to executive vice president of the College’s Science and Quality Division. Chang will be responsible for operational oversight of clinical registries, hospital accreditation, clinical policy, quality improvement and patient education, as well as corporate growth and development, through the role.

Prior to joining the ACC, Chang was a senior manager in IBM’s strategy consulting unit where she specialised in the pharmaceutical industry and a frontline process engineer at 3M, manufacturing dental and orthodontic products.
