Giovanni Stellin (Padova, Italy) talks to Cardiovascular News at the ECHSA 2019 meeting (European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association; 20–22 June; Sofia, Bulgaria) about his own experience with the CardioCel (Admedus) bioscaffold which he found “excellent in reconstructing part of the heart in small children with congenital heart disease”. Stellin’s experience is similar to that shown in a recently published article by Nelson where 500 CardioCel bioscaffolds were used and did not show any calcification.

Stellin praised the “effort the company has made” in producing a curved (or 3D) patch which will be “extremely important for the construction of the aortic arch in neonates and children with hypoplasia of the aortic arch”.

The acellularity of the product is “important” and from his own preliminary data, Stellin says that he is “very happy” and that he will continue using CardioCel.
