Terumo Europe has entered into a distribution agreement with New Zealand company Adept Medical to make the STARSystem available to clinicians working across Western Europe. A press release reports that the support for transradial angiography and revascularisation (STAR) system is a combination of the STARBoard and STARTable. It adds that STARBoard is a forearm and hand support that is designed to make performing transradial procedures quicker and easier.
According to the press release, the STARBoard is ergonomically designed with fully articulating arms and friction joints and aims to provide excellent patient comfort and ease of use for clinicians. STARSupport connects to the STARBoard, facilitating left arm procedures. Additionally, the STARTable provides a stable work surface and support for catheters, wires and other equipment as well as additional X-ray scatter reduction. The STARBoard vertical shield reduces X-ray scatter at neck height by 80%.
Peter Coenen, president of Terumo Interventional Systems EMEA, said he was delighted to be bringing the STARSystem to Europe and anticipated strong interest from clinicians. He comments: “Seeking partnerships of this kind in addition to investing in our own research and development means we continue to lead the field in transradial access solutions for interventional cardiology and peripheral intervention. By making the world’s best equipment available to our customers we help them to perform at their best, ultimately helping achieve the best outcomes for patients.”
The press release states that weighing 1kg, the STARBoard is extremely lightweight, compact and very easy to handle for cath lab staff. It also states that the unique, one-piece, “foldaway” design of the device takes up minimal storage space.
